GOD, MAN, AND THE ENVIRONMENT
“Everything exists and happens for a reason…”
I was born and raised a Catholic- believing in a so-called GOD, the father of Jesus. Doubts and questions came to me when I entered college and there I personally tasked myself to explore who (or what) do I really believe in. Yes, my faith was challenged. For some reason, I felt quite confused as to believing HIS existence. I challenged myself provocatively whether really do I believe that someone so powerful exists- He who can control everything. I went atheist for weeks- maybe months, but after it all, one day I just found myself boarding down a jeepney on my way home, and stepped into a church unplanned, crying silently while praying and asking for forgiveness. I was able to surpass the halt that not all people will encounter, and as the song goes in my head… “I once was lost, but now, am found.”
The highest form of creature known to exist- MAN. Humans are simply complex in nature. We differ physically, mentally, emotionally, etcetera, etcetera. One thing though I’m practically sure of, we all get to choose who we want to be, and what do we want to known of. We were given the capacity to think for ourselves, to act in response to the situation, to whether or not we want to adhere with the society’s norms and all. People, by nature, are actually powerful- and we all just don’t know how to take fully advantage of it yet. Thus I believe we, humans, always have a choice.
Family, friends, random people… Society- comprising of different groups leading us all; community- revolving around our local aspects of living; nature- responding to human interaction …these I think is what we call our ENVIRONMENT. The people in our lives plays a role in such a way that we tend to be influenced by those who we usually (or randomly) communicate with. Society, in a sense dictates how we deal with other people, national situations such as economic adjustments and it affects as well our political views. Technically, it is almost the same with our community, but latter deals with the more immediate part of our interaction with people. Lastly, nature, as by all means we cannot fully control. Man may destroy or nurture it, but such things as earthquakes, storms, tides, volcanic eruptions, weather changes and all other calamities will test earthlings more as there is no way for us to control it, rather we are placed to survive it.
As humans were known to be sent by God on earth to take good care of what He has built, we were still actually in control of everything down here. We were privileged to whether or not destroy the life that we were granted, and on how we can manage it as well. Our environment plays a major role in human life as it will affect how we think, act, respond and adapt to everyday life situations. Everything exists and happens for a reason as I say. Without God, man won’t exist, and without man, the things He had built would probably be gone in no time.
